Press Release: Leaders of FMD Architects Strengthen Community Ties with New Board Positions

Sep 19, 2018 | News, Press Release

Owners Melanie Friedman and Mark Moore were both unanimously elected to service boards this past quarter.

Friedman joined Urban Vision, a Christian-based non-profit serving the culturally diverse kids of Akron’s North Hill neighborhood. Rodney Matthews, Executive Director of Urban Vision, was part of Leadership Akron’s “Core 34” class with Friedman, and saw an opportunity to utilize her architectural expertise for their facilities committee. Having supported Urban Vision in various volunteer capacities in the past, Friedman saw joining the board as an easy next step. She stated “I had already seen the great work Urban Vision does in the community, and was thrilled at the opportunity to share my knowledge to help further their mission.”

Moore developed a relationship with the team at the Battered Women’s Shelter while FMD was working on their latest project to build a new kitchen with offices above on the second floor. FMD was also helping to create a new play area for the kids and shelter for a few pets. The Board felt having someone with an architectural background would be an asset to their facilities team. He noted “Through the last couple of years, I saw how the Battered Women’s Shelter can get people out of a bad situation quickly and then work with them to get a new start on life and I am very excited to be a part of their organization.”

Over the last several years, FMD has volunteered as a team for several different non-profits and firmly believes that its purpose is to fulfill each client’s vision and create a better community through philanthropy and service. Being a part of these boards will help serve the community on a deeper, more consistent level, and FMD’s leaders couldn’t be more excited.
